What We Know

This page shares the essential facts about the proposed project in Sharon. Here, you’ll find what’s been confirmed, what’s still unclear, and why it matters—so you can stay informed and understand how it could impact our area and way of life.

The map below is to show where the run off water from the land goes that this Tech facility is trying to buy. In the yellow outlined area you will see the area they are trying to purchase. For clarification we are NOT saying everyone in this area has signed letters of intent or are selling to this tech facility. This is just the area and land they are trying to acquire. The blue lines show where the run off water goes. The Blue water symbol shows where the Kiowa, Kansas, water well is located. All of the waste water from this facility will end up flowing to Kiowa’s water well.

Potential effects we do know from research that’s been done from other facilities:

  • The water consumption could be potentially extremely high. On a hot day one facility can use millions of gallons of water in one day. As we all know, water is vital to our survival. Sharon doesn’t only supply water to the town itself, but we also supply water to Kiowa. Another concern with the water is the waste water that comes from these facilities.

  • The amount of electricity that is used could cause inconsistencies and surges for the customers and leave the customer with a higher electric bill. (They will say this isn’t true but this has been the case for other communities).

  • The noise data centers generate continuous 24/7 low frequency noise from HVAC cooling systems. Additionally, industrial grade generators also produce a lot of noise and must be run for maintenance. Low frequent noise passes through barriers and travels farther. Low frequency noise negatively impacts health and quality of life. Continuous noise, even at low decibels, is also detrimental to wildlife.

  • Light pollution, depending on the type of facility they plan to build, they will change the night skies. Light pollution also impacts human sleep, anxiety and other environmental concerns.

  • Facilities like these get tax breaks, while the residents’ taxes go up.

  • Most facilities lifespan is only 5-7 years.

The issues listed above are just a little insight of the potential problems/issues. Please, do some research and inform yourself with more information. Also, if you went to help, get in contact with our county commissioners and voice your concerns. These companies move into small communities, take advantage of the people and leave them with a wasteland.

After some extensive investigative work we found that the contracting company that got the letters of intent signed by the landowners is Torofino Holdings, LLC out of Houston, Tx.

The division of water resources has been reached out to by the tech company and their chief engineer is looking into this project now.

We have spoken with a lawyer that specializes in this specific area and we have a clear avenue to putting a stop to this!

This is what we believe we know for sure.

There are already letters of intent on land in close proximity to Sharon, Kansas, to acquire this land. Meaning this land is currently under contract for purchase.

The state of Kansas has offered this company a 10 year tax exemption.

This effort has been in the works for awhile as some local companies had been informed of this and been forced to sign NDA’s. Meaning they already knew this would be very unpopular in the community.

There will be more to come on this matter.
